Air Purifiers

Air Filters

Two key components of air purifiers are a fan and an air filter. The purpose of the fan is to circulate the air through the filter. The air filter traps different undesirable elements (ex: pathogens). Good air filters match the HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) standard. They require that the filter removes at least 99.97% of fine particles. (picture by Dr. Marwa Zaatari)

This graph compares various commercial air filters on three criteria

  • total cost for 1 year

  • amount of air recirculated

  • noise levels (color coded)
