Proper Filters

Proper, well-maintained air filters are critical for maintaining good ventilation in indoor spaces. Air filters are graded on MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) scale.

The higher the MERV value, the better the filter is at trapping finer particles. Traditionally, filters with the highest MERV values (MERV16 and higher) are used in extremely sensitive environments, like surgery operating rooms, pharmacological factories, etc. ; hospitals usually have filters with MERV rating 13 and above. Most commercial and residential buildings come with MERV filters rated at 5-8 but the better-ventilated buildings use higher-rated MERV filters - typically 11-13.

However, this doesn't mean that we should install the highest MERV-value filters - as MERV value increases, the resistance to airflow also increases, reducing the effective air circulation. Also, if you use a MERV filter with a higher MERV value than what the HVAC system supports, it can put additional strain on, and potentially damage the system's fans. Accordingly, we recommend getting high-MERV value filters that are compatible with your HVAC system.

Also, over time, air filters get clogged with trapped particles. All air filters required proper maintenance at regular intervals, with visual inspection and replacement as needed.
